This is a tutored workshop for all abilities, beginners supported and experimentation encouraged for those that want to take their skills further.

Half Term and Holidays

February 9, 2016

HALF TERM for all classes between 15th -19th February

PORTRAIT class returns Tuesday 23rd February using Watercolour Pencils.

Lots of experimenting with colours and getting to grips with this interesting medium, last session we picked just two colours to work with, alternating our choices with every new sketch. By the end of the morning everyone had used a wide range of choices and felt more confident with the amount of pencil pigment to initially draw with and how the water brush changed these marks.

Plans for the next session after the break, gradually introduction of more colours and line.

Wishing all our students a very Happy New Year, full of inspiration and excitement and hoping the Christmas break has recharged your batteries ready to create wonderful works.

Portrait classes will begin again on Tuesday 12th January, starting at 10 am, we will be working with the popular medium of Pastels.

Tutor Barbara Valentine had a successful operation before Christmas and is making a good recovery, she plans to resume her regular classes the following week starting on Tuesday January 19th in the afternoon at 1.30 pm and on Wednesday 20th morning at 10 am.  Just for the time being, until she is fully recovered, she has decided to only hold two classes a week instead of three.

Anyone who usually attends the Wednesday afternoon class, please get in touch with Barbara to re-arrange another session, email

To any prospective students, we always welcome new class members and our courses are open to begin at anytime, we cater for all abilities so if you’ve always wanted to learn how to draw and paint just get in touch and come along for a taster session. We can supply basic drawing materials and paper so there is no need to buy anything special before you’ve had a sample of the various mediums.

I recently represented our classes at the Mountfield Village Gathering, a  showcase of all the wonderful and interesting events and groups based in and around the Village Hall that make this small pocket of East Sussex so full of life and community spirit.

Part of the event was to unveil the new defibrillator that is in place outside the halls main entrance. St.John’s Ambulance crew were on hand to demonstrate its use with very simple and easy to follow instructions, all of which are inside the orange pack. This is kept unlocked and can be accessed by anyone using the hall incase of a cardiac arrest emergency. The machine will only work when no heartbeat is detected so cannot be misused.
