Working from 2 models, each for 3 weeks gives the optimum opportunity to complete an in depth portrait using this lovely and versatile medium. Compare different painting surfaces, trying canvas and smooth board, each has a unique application method to explore.

This course is aimed at both beginners, as an introduction to oil painting techniques and also the more experienced student to hone your skills under expert guidance.

Includes – Step by step demonstrations, composition and perspective advice, preparatory design, paint management, colour mixing and application. Ending each session with ‘How to look after your brushes’

Roll up, roll up…..Ladies and Gentlemen, I am delighted to present for your delectation, an extra special portrait workshop, introducing this CABARET themed painting day.

Perfect subject matter for all mediums – pastels, watercolours acrylics and oils.

We have the wonderful Gillian as our muse for the day, a circus & burlesque performer, ready and willing to entertain us while sitting as still as a statue.

NEW TERM & WORKSHOPS

New Portrait term starts on Tuesday 29th November, concentration on ‘Introducing Colour’ for 10 weeks

Students will gradually be introduced to coloured pastels during an intensive 5 week period using this versatile medium. We have an inspiring array of new sitters to draw and working on a larger scale helps to free up everyones unique style.

There are still a few places left on the course, with two models per session in this mixed abilities class.

Due to popular demand I’ve been busy organising regular monthly PORTRAIT workshops on the following dates –

Each workshop runs from 10 am to 3 pm, refreshments provided, please bring your own art materials and a packed lunch.

The model will be in one pose for the whole day – perfect opportunity to get the oil paints out and have a intensive painting session. Step by step demonstrations and advice.

GREETINGS EVERYONE – we hope you’ve all had a wonderful Summer break, now we’ve rested, refreshed and rejuvenated – we are raring to go!

Mountfield Community Arts has continued to inspire and encourage the artistic side of all our students in all mediums.  Our aim is to spread the joy of creativity and enable everyone to gain the courage to continue their journey.

Weekly classes begin again for the new term on Tuesday 13th September. Juliette Dodd teaches the morning Portrait class at 10 am – 12.30. Specially adapted to for beginners, topics included are the secrets of getting a likeness, easy to follow rules of measurements and proportions, plus useful tips on composition. The first term concentrates of the fundamentals of drawing as the basis of all great art, using pencils, conte, pen & ink, charcoal and chalk. Keeping things simple until its time to progress.

Barbara Valentine holds regular weekly classes in Mixed-media, encompassing a whole range of different techniques and media – pastels, oils, watercolour, pencils etc. Tuesday afternoons plus two sessions on Wednesdays to cater for all abilities and subjects. Students are encouraged to work on their own projects under the expert guidance of multi award winning miniature painter, Barbara Valentine.

All the classes held here at Mountfield are very informal and friendly, attracting people from all walks of life and varying distances away, coming together in a shared love of art and beauty. These unique classes strive to encompass the traditional teachings of art from practicing artists/ qualified tutors who can genuinely make a difference to your life.

MOUNTFIELD COMMUNITY ARTS – ALL CLASSES START ON TUESDAY 15th SEPTEMBER

A big welcome to all our new and returning students, we are happy to help and guide you through your artistic journey.

Weekly classes to exercise, inspire, and teach – using a wide range of medium and techniques to stretch and push your natural abilities to excel in excellence.

Juliette Dodd will be teaching the Tuesday morning PORTRAIT class, beginning with the well loved and traditional medium of pencils. This course is for all abilities with special attention given to beginners, guiding you through the steps of drawing an accurate likeness and understanding the anatomical structure of the face, neck and shoulders. Once students are confident in the basics we will then progress on a journey through the many drawing and painting mediums in a gentle but challenging way with step by step demonstrations.

Returning students will be encouraged to pursue their quest for mastery over their favourite mediums – oils, watercolours or pastels.

A variety of interesting models sitting for two or three weeks in succession, giving scope to spend longer on a painting or to get to know a face well from many angles and different lighting effects.

ART WORKSHOPS with Barbara Valentine – Tuesday 1pm- 3.30 pm

Barbara is a celebrated and award winning Miniaturist and Botanical artist holding specialist classes aimed at all abilities, beginners are especially welcome to these fun and friendly classes.  Students are helped and encouraged to follow their individual path of creative expression with Barbaras gentle but guiding teaching approach. Through exciting still life ideas, new and experimental medium applications, creative projects and progressive themes to inspire all. Practical demonstrations are an important part of the lessons, showing how a variety of effects can be created in a fast and fun way.

Subjects covered include – Composition and perspective, colour mixing and how to use complementary colours, how to grid up a reference photo, plus mounting and framing advice.

Miniature painting, oil and watercolour painting, pastel and acrylic painting, drawing and sketching.

Tuesday morning sessions starting on 16th June to 21st July, this 6 week intensive course introduces the techniques and application of oil paints to produce two portraits. 10 am – 12.30 pm

Working from two models each sitting for 3 sessions with demonstrations in various approaches to capturing a likeness in oils.

JUNE 16, 23, 30th – Working on pre-coloured canvas and a 1930’s tableaux with female model dressed in period costume as ‘Afternoon tea with a Lady’.

JULY 7,14, 21st – Model to be confirmed

Students are encouraged to experiment, explore and develop their own unique style in a nourishing environment.

Oil paints, canvas, boards & easels can be provided on request

Six week course starting Tuesday 10th June 10 am – 12.30

Especially aimed for beginners, with paints and pallet supplied so you can sample working with this medium under expert guidance before you splash out.

Simple to follow, step by step demonstrations through each stage of ~ composition, capturing a likeness, colour mixing made easy, under-painting and over-painting, glazing, plus care and cleaning of brushes.

Working on both canvas and board, from two different models each for three sessions.
