Barbara is a world renown and award winning Miniature painter and this is a unique opportunity to learn this ancient and mysterious tradition under expert guidance. Many students follow self directed projects, depending on experience, and learn new techniques adapted to individual needs. Each session has a botanical themed still life arranged for your delight, with seasonal flowers, fruit and foliage especially gathered from Barbara’s own beautiful cutting garden to inspire and enthral artistic works. All classes hold an array of practical equipment and a selection art materials needed so students can try a range of  mediums before they buy their own – advice happily given by the tutors.

Mixed-media encompasses all the art materials generally available and easily purchased from local independent suppliers including @The Crafty Norman in Battle and @In-Perspective at Bexhill. Portrait classes will begin again on Tuesday 12th January, starting at 10 am, we will be working with the popular medium of Pastels.

Tutor Barbara Valentine had a successful operation before Christmas and is making a good recovery, she plans to resume her regular classes the following week starting on Tuesday January 19th in the afternoon at 1.30 pm and on Wednesday 20th morning at 10 am.  Just for the time being, until she is fully recovered, she has decided to only hold two classes a week instead of three.

To any prospective students, we always welcome new class members and our courses are open to begin at anytime, we cater for all abilities so if you’ve always wanted to learn how to draw and paint just get in touch and come along for a taster session. We can supply basic drawing materials and paper so there is no need to buy anything special before you’ve had a sample of the various mediums.

I recently represented our classes at the Mountfield Village Gathering, a  showcase of all the wonderful and interesting events and groups based in and around the Village Hall that make this small pocket of East Sussex so full of life and community spirit.

Part of the event was to unveil the new defibrillator that is in place outside the halls main entrance. St.John’s Ambulance crew were on hand to demonstrate its use with very simple and easy to follow instructions, all of which are inside the orange pack. This is kept unlocked and can be accessed by anyone using the hall incase of a cardiac arrest emergency. The machine will only work when no heartbeat is detected so cannot be misused.
